East Africa eVisa is a one-type entry permit issued for those who want to visit one or all of three East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda). With e-Visa, a tourist can travel to these three countries at the same time.
East Africa Tourist e-Visa covers:

  • exploring Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda as a tourist
  • visiting family members or friends residing in one of these 3 East African countries
  • handling business affairs like closing a deal, negotiating a contract, attending business conferences, etc.

Validity

The validity of the eVisa to East Africa is 3 months from the date you have planned to travel to the East African countries, not from the date it was issued. This means that you can travel for 3 months between Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda starting from the date you have provided in your online visa application as an entry date.

Requirements

The following requirements should be fulfilled if you are applying for a tourist eVisa to East Africa:

  • You should not be in any of the three countries (Kenya, Rwanda, or Uganda) when applying for a Tourist eVisa to East Africa.
  • You should be traveling with the same passport you used when you applied for eVisa.
  • You cannot be a holder of a valid visa for any of the three countries when applying for a new eVisa to East Africa.
  • A valid credit/debit card to pay for the eVisa. There are also other methods of online payment available.
  • A valid email address to receive the eVisa the moment it is approved.
  • A stable internet connection to smoothly go through all stages of online application.
  • A working electronic device to go to the end of the application process and submit an online form. It may be, e.g., a smartphone or a laptop.

Application Process Guide
The eVisa to East Africa may be obtained through a simple 3 step process which will not take more than a couple of minutes. These steps comprise:

  1. Filling out an online form: enter your personal data, travel and passport information and provide the date you are planning to travel to Kenya, Uganda or Rwanda. Make sure to attach the requested documents and ensure that there are no mistakes in the data you entered.
  2. Pay the fee for your e-visa use one of the available forms of online payment, e.g., you can pay with your valid credit or debit card. Soon after the registration of your payment, an application number will be sent to your email address with a confirmation message. The number can be used to check the progress of your application processing.
  3. Check out for the approved eVisa: go to your email inbox and check if a visa in a PDF format has already arrived there. This usually can take up to 6 business days.

You must apply for the eVisa at least 3 business days before the date of travel!

NECESSARY DOCUMENTS

Rwanda:

  • face photo of a person applying for e-Visa (it can be a phone or a PC camera photo)
  • the bio-data page of a passport of a person applying for e-Visa

Uganda:

  • face photo of a person applying for e-Visa (it can be a phone or a PC camera photo)
  • the bio-data page of a passport of a person applying for e-Visa
  • a vaccination certificate against yellow fever (copy)
  • itinerary describing the details of your planned trip

East Africa Visa requirements

Important information about Tourist eVisa to East Africa

  • eVisa to East Africa can be issued for travelers from all over the world.
  • You cannot be a holder of a valid visa for any of these countries (Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda) when applying for an online visa to East Africa.
  • You can only travel between the three countries of Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda within the validity period of 3 months and cannot enter other East African countries.
  • You should have a printed copy of the eVisa to East Africa with you to present it to the customs officials at the airport.
  • If you are transiting for a third country destination from one of these three East African countries but don’t wish to leave the airport’s transit area, you don’t need to apply for an online visa.
  • The online tourist visa to East Africa cannot be used for long-term employment purposes in the country.
  • If you are traveling with minors to East Africa, the eVisa application should be submitted by their parents or guardians.
  • You cannot extend your stay beyond the validity period of 3 months for the eVisa to East Africa.
