Visa Uganda types

Uganda Visa Types

There are different types of visas you can apply for to visit Uganda. As you plan your trip, it is always a great idea to choose a visa type that accurately fits your purpose of travelling. The Ugandan visa types are designed based on your purpose of visit and the number of days you wish to stay.

  1. Single-entry visa With a single-entry visa, you can stay in the country within a 90 days time frame. This option is suitable if you visit the country as a tourist or for business and medical needs.
  2. Multiple-entry East Africa eVisa Choosing a multiple-entry visa type is similar to the single entry visa in terms of visit duration which is 90 days. However, the multiple-entry visa, also called (East Africa Online Visa) can be used to visit some neighbouring countries like Kenya and Rwanda. It also allows for multiple visits within the validity period.
  3. Transit eVisa Are you travelling to another country but need to stop in Uganda to take another flight? If that is the case, a Ugandan transit visa is what you need. Transit eVisa is designed for transit only, and it functions as a 7-days short stay permit in Uganda.

Validity

  • Single-entry eVisa and multiple-entry East Africa eVisaThe validity of both these visa types is 3 months (90 days) from the date of crossing the border of Uganda.
  • Transit eVisaWhen you don’t actually want to stay in the country and apply for a transit visa, you are not allowed to spend more than a week once you arrive because it has a 7 days validity period.

    • The validity period for your online transit visa to Uganda actually starts counting the day your flight lands at the airport, not really the day it was issued.
    Please note: your passport validity of 180 days should exceed the date of entry to Uganda.

    Requirements

    It is a wise idea to get the requirements ready before applying for a Ugandan online visa to save your time and complete an online application as soon as possible.

    The requirements may differ based on your visa choice and other factors. Nevertheless, you should get your passport ready and some other needed documents. Specific requirements regarding necessary documents were described in section ‘Application Form and Required Documents.’
    Generally, if you are applying for an eVisa to Uganda, you should have at hand any working electronic device connected to the Internet and the following:

  • Passport bio-data page: You should have a clearly scanned copy of the biodata page of your passport to upload in the online form.
  • Photograph A digital copy of a clear picture of your face is also required.
  • Vaccination: Get a clear photo or (digital copy) of the certificate for the yellow fever vaccination.
  • Email address:A valid email address is needed to receive a digital copy of your visa in PDF format.
  • Payment method:A valid payment method is needed to cover the processing fee. It is possible to use, e.g., a credit or debit card for this process.

    There are only three basic steps to follow when applying for your online visa to Uganda. All you have to do at first is to head to the application page to get started. Once on this page, choose the visa type you want to apply for and begin your application process.
    3 Steps of eVisa to Uganda Application Form

    1. Enter all necessary information: Use your passport to provide passport and personal details. Next, upload the required supporting documents.
    2. Cover the processing fee: It may be paid by credit/debit card, via Paypal, or any other available online payment method that you can find in the application form.
    3. Check your email: A PDF file with your e-Visa will be sent to your email inbox. Print it out!

    The online form is easy to fill out and shouldn’t cause trouble for you. In each field, choose the right option and enter the required information correctly. Don’t hesitate to check it twice before finally submitting it!

    • an invitation letter issued by a host or agent in Malawi (it must be signed by a host or agent) or hotel reservation
    • company/ hosting company certificate of registration in Malawi

    The required documents can differ a bit depending on the type of eVisa to Uganda you decide to apply for, and they are as follows:

    Important information

    Useful information about eVisa to Uganda

    • You need to print out your entry permit and carry it with you throughout your trip to Uganda. This is because you will have to present it to the authorities for verification before welcoming you to the country.
    • If your passport expires earlier than the next six months, it is advisable to renew it before applying for an eVisa to Uganda. This is because a passport that has less than six months validity won’t be accepted.
    • Applying for a transit visa means that you will be staying in Uganda for a maximum of 7 days before going to another country.
    • If you need to leave the transit area for whatever reason, you should apply for another visa type at least (3) three days beforehand.
    • Please, do note that your eVisa to Uganda cannot serve as a working permit. It only serves for the purposes of a short stay in the country, i.a. for business reasons.
    • e-Visa to Uganda can be extended via the official government website of Uganda.
