Indian eVisa Types

The Indian Bureau of Immigration has facilitated the citizens of many countries to visit India by allowing different types of eVisas for different purposes.
There are the following sub-categories of eVisas to India based on a specific purpose:

  • e-Tourist Visa A multiple-entry permit dedicated to tourists wishing to visit India for holidays, or reunite with relatives residing there. Its holder can stay a maximum of 3 months during a single visit.
  • e-Business Visa A multiple-entry visa allowing a stay of 180 days per single visit. It is dedicated for those who want to attend business meetings or handle any business-related affairs in India.
  • e-Medical Visa e-Medical visa is a triple-entry visa allowing the foreign citizen to enter India up to 3 times within the validity period staying in total for a maximum period of 60 days.

Validity

The validity of an Indian eVisa varies according to the type of visa you’re applying for:

  • Both multiple-entry tourist and business e-visas are valid for 1 year from the dates of issuance.
  • A triple-entry medical e-visa remains valid for 4 months starting from the day it was issued.

Requirements

The requirements for eVisa to India are as follow:

  • Anyone, whose nationality is included on the list of eligible countries, intending for a family reunion, attending a conference or short term courses, voluntary work, medical treatment, business purpose, can apply for eVisa to India.
  • The visa applicant must hold a valid passport for at least six months.There must be at least two pages empty on your passport for stamping by the Immigration Department.
  • Every e-visa applicant needs to be an active user of email, have access to any means of online payment form available in an online form, and have at hand a working electronic device.

    Application Form and Required Documents

    You will be required to fill an online form to receive an e-visa to India. Following, there are 3 simple steps how to go through the application process successfully:

    1. Start by selecting one purpose of your trip and click the apply button. You will be redirected to an online form that must be filled out with basic information, including personal details, travel information, one border crossing point, etc. Upload all the supporting documents and go to the next step.
    2. At this stage, you will need to cover the processing fee. Choose one of the available methods of online payment to receive the confirmation number to your email.
    3. Refresh your email inbox to see if the confirmation number has been already delivered. Your e-visa in a PDF will be mailed up to 3 business days too!

    REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

    Important information

    Useful information about eVisa to India

    • You cannot apply for an extension of your eVisa
    • The standard processing time for eVisa to India is 72 hours from the time of application. So you must apply for an eVisa to India 3 business days prior to your expected visit date in India. Nevertheless, our applicants can enjoy earlier approval, since the average time after which they receive e-visas to India is 51 hours.
    • Before starting to fill out an online form, check if your passport won’t expire within the following 6 months, starting from the date of your entry to India.
    • As an online visa is digitally linked to the passport of an applicant, any change of the passport data results in visa expiration. It simply means that if your passport data changes or becomes invalid, your visa is no longer valid as well. You will need to submit a new application.
    • Please note that an electronic visa doesn’t function as a work permit.
