A passport is an official document by which the Japanese government publicly certifies the nationality and status of Japanese nationals who travel abroad. It is also used when the Japanese government calls on foreign governments to, as circumstances demand, protect and support Japanese nationals who travel abroad in order to secure their safe travel.
